Gregory Watson

Greg is the Chief of the Inter-American Development Bank’s Biodiversity and Natural Capital Unit, managing the IDB’s work on this topic. He works to drive innovation in natural capital finance and to mainstream biodiversity across the IDB and in countries. He led the development of the Bank’s Natural Capital Mainstreaming Action Plan, co-leads work on nature finance metrics for the MDB Working Group on Nature and spearheaded the drafting and approval of the MDB Joint Statement on Nature, People and Planet for COP 26. He has co-led the IDB’s debt for nature conversions in Barbados, Bahamas, and Ecuador, the IDBG’s first equity investment in oceans. He also supported the creation of the first Biodiversity Credit Bank in LAC and has worked to develop new asset classes for natural capital trading. His team also leverages international funding for biodiversity and manages the IDB’s relationship with the Global Environment Facility. Mr. Watson has a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and a bachelor’s from Tufts University.
