Overview
Our Approach to Capacity Development
We strive to catalyze the widespread use of natural capital approaches by strengthening the ability of scientists, practitioners, and institutions to incorporate nature’s values into real-world decisions. Our work centers on building both technical capability and institutional readiness—providing training, mentoring, peer learning, and practical guidance to help partners produce, interpret, and apply natural capital information. By supporting others to confidently use these methods and tools, we help embed nature’s values in policy, planning, accounting, and investment processes at scale.
Our capacity development activities aim to:
- Strengthen the knowledge and technical skills of researchers and analysts to conduct natural capital assessments and generate high-quality information about ecosystem service values.
- Provide tailored guidance and mentoring for managers and directors in governments and financial institutions, helping them interpret natural capital information and incorporate it into policy, planning, budgeting, and decision processes.
- Increase awareness and share evidence of successful applications to inspire senior leaders to embed natural capital approaches within their institutions, policies, and systems.
- Offer recognition, networks, and learning opportunities for emerging leaders who are advancing natural capital approaches in innovative and strategic ways, helping to build confidence and community among the next generation of practitioners.
